Settling into school

At Barnacarroll National  school we are always delighted to welcome new pupils but we take particular pleasure in welcoming new students to Junior Infants.  This is a new and exciting stage in your child's life.  During this year, your child will make new friends, enjoy new experiences and learn the vital skill of reading.  We would like to make the child's early experience of school a positive and enjoyable one.

First Day- A Happy One

On arrival it is very helpful if you can show your child where to hang their coat and leave their lunch.  Show your child to their seat.  Assure them you will be back to collect them and make your getaway without delay!

Your child will have two breaks during the day:

11:00am for drink and a little snack.

12:45pm for lunch.

Children often forget to relay messages so please check your child's bag each night for notes.

Making life easier for the Junior Infant

Help you child to be as independent as possible.  It would help if he/she is able to

  • Button and unbutton his/her coat.

  • Use the toilet without help.

  • Use hanky where necessary.

  • Share toys and take turns.

  • When buying a schoolbag make sure it is big enough to hold an A4 folder.

  • Label everything, for example: Lunchbox, coat, jumpers and twistables.
