Aistear
Aistear is the new early childhood curriculum framework for children from birth to six years in Ireland. Because early childhood marks the beginning of children’s lifelong learning journeys, this framework is called Aistear, the Irish word for journey

Aistear
Aistear uses four themes to describe what children learn during their early childhood.
The themes are:
■ Well-being
■ Identity and Belonging
■ Communicating
■ Exploring and Thinking.
Each theme has sample learning opportunities to be found on the Aistear Website. There are lots of ideas for activities you might like to try out at home to help your child learn in a fun way. Many of these ideas can be used outside as well as inside.
Aims of Aistear
The Curriculum has three broad aims:
■ to enable the child to live as a child and to realise his or her potential as a unique individual.
■ to enable the child to develop as a social being through living and co-operating with others and so contribute to the good of society.
■ to prepare the child for further education and lifelong learning.
